This is the rear garden of a Holiday Rental townhouse in Carlingford. The client wished to develop the garden as an attractive functional space, which would be an additional attraction to this popular new property. The kitchen opens onto an existing paved patio, and the garden exits through a central gate into a parking area. This terrace house garden has high fencing on both sides and a stone wall at the end. These concept sketches are 3 approaches to the brief. The designs have some common factors:

•	closing off or dressing the gate, in order to make the garden more intimate to the house and give more privacy;

•	use of lighting to give the garden interest in winter and at night;

•	relocation of the dining area further into the garden to get maximum sun;

•	a focus on easy-care planting, with edible, culinary plants as a key theme.
